You have to first install Hotstar app on your device and sign in/ signup your account. For the VR features, the users will obviously need to own a VR headset. Now the headset can be as cheap as the cardboard ones, or even as expensive as the HTC Vive ones. As long as the smartphone supports a VR headset, then that headset is compatible with this feature from Hotstar.
I don’t have a VR Headset, How can I Watch?
For users who don’t own a VR headset, no need to feel down. Hotstar has made an announcement to open up VR stores so that everyone can use and experience this feature on their own. This will start soon before the IPL starts in the month of April.
This will be the first time for an online stream platform to support VR in live sports, however, Star has previously launched VR support for Star Pro Kabaddi. Star pro kabaddi used this feature just as a promotional tool earlier and also not on the live stream.
Another platform for online streaming, Netflix also features VR support for most of its movies and shows on offer. However, the quality is not on par with other 360-degree views. Streaming content on Netflix in VR feels more like watching on a 100-inch bug screen.
